Schuylkill River Hosts 2018 Philadelphia 7s

Schuylkill River RFC hosts the Philadelphia 7s rugby tournament for the 2018 Summer Sevens MAC qualifiers on July 14th. The best men's and women's rugby teams in the Mid-Atlantic will compete in the Men's Premier, Open, and Social divisions, as well as Women's Premier and Open.

Pat Boyle, long-time member of Schuylkill River, commented, "Hosting a MAC qualifier is a huge honor as it’s the pathway to play for a 7s national championship. We hosted a great event in 2017 and believe this year will be even better. Historically, and now with the CRC in Philly, 7s has always been a a huge part of the EPRU. We want the Philadelphia 7s to really show case the talent in the MidAtlantic especially the EPRU."

This tournament will be the culmination of a Summer-long series of MAC 7s qualifying tournaments. The Men's Open division will determine which MAC open side team will win the season series. The Premier will help decide which team goes on to compete in the National 7s Championship.

The teams and seeding for the MAC divisions are determined by the other MAC qualifiers and are not open to other teams. But the Men's Social and Women's Open division will be open to any teams interested in competing.

Additional 2018 Summer Sevens MAC qualifiers are:

  • Wilmington, June 16
  • Baltimore, June 23
  • Richmond, July 7 (men only)
  • Schuylkill River, July 14

In their first year at the Division II competition, they were crowned as the EPRU Division II Champions and reached the Sweet 16 in Nationals. With their promotion to Division I in 2001, they were one of the only clubs to be promoted from Division III to Division I in a two-year span. The same year, they finished 2nd in their Division. In 2002, a one point loss would keep them out of Nationals.
